Current best practices dictate that when doing a comprehensive hearing evaluation, the Doctor of Audiology should evaluate each portion of the auditory system. This includes:
- the outer ear
- the middle ear
- the inner ear
- the auditory nerve
- the auditory brainstem
- the auditory area of the brain
The audiologist uses video otoscopy, pure tone air and bone conduction testing impedance, and many other testing methods to create a clear picture of a patient’s hearing loss. Conducting several tests as a standard operation ensures that each patient receives a thorough evaluation and helps diagnose any audiological pathology.
